Ingredients

6 Servings
  1. Apple pie crust
  2. 2 1/2 cupsall purpose flour
  3. 1 cupunsalted butter, very-cold
  4. 1 tspsugar
  5. 1 tspsalt
  6. 6-8 tbspsice water
  7. Apple pie filling
  8. 5Granny-smith Apples
  9. 1 tspcinnamon powder
  10. 1 tspnutmeg
  11. 1/4 cupbutter
  12. 1egg yolk
  13. 1/2 cupbrown sugar
  14. 1/2 cupgranulated sugar
  15. 1 tbspsanding sugar to sprinkle

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Cut the butter into 1/2" pieces

  2. 2

Mix the flour, sugar and salt

  3. 3

Add butter, half at a time to the mixture, pulsing several times after each addition in the food processor

  4. 4

Sprinkle the mixture with ice water. Add more ice water, one tablespoon at a time. Knead enough so that the dough holds together without cracks.

  5. 5

Divide the dough into two even-sized disks. Sprinkle each disk with a little flour and wrap each one in plastic wrap and refrigerate for one hour or up to two days.

  6. 6

Peel and cut apple into 1/4" pieces.

  7. 7

Melt butter and add apples, cook them on medium heat for 1 minute. Add brown sugar and granulated sugar. Sprinkle nutmeg and cinnamon powder and mix. Cook until the apples have stewed and the liquid has thickened.

  8. 8

Remove the pie crust from the refrigerator and let it sit for 20 minutes in order to soften to make rolling out a bit easier. Roll it into 12"circle and 1/8" thick.

  9. 9

Place the crust in a pie dish and pour the cooked mixture in the centre.

  10. 10

Cut the dough into even strips, /1/2" wide with a blunt knife or a pizza wheel. Place them in top of each other making lattice shape.

  11. 11

    Brush it with egg wash.

  12. 12

Bake it in the oven at 400° F for 35 minutes. Sprinkle sanding sugar and cinnamon powder on top.

  13. 13

Cut a piece and enjoy!! 🥧
