Cooking Instructions
- 1
(Preheat oven to 175C) Pie: make dough from flower (300g), butter (200g) sugar (100g), egg and vanilla sugar. Spread out on a baking plate. Peel apples and cut into slices. Spread neatly out on dough. Add crumbled walnuts on top.
- 2
Crumbs (Streusel): melt the butter (200g), meanwhile mix all other ingredients (flower (275g), sugar (125g), cinnamon and a pinch of salt). Add warm butter to this mixture and let cool down a little. Then make big crumbs. Preferable above the dough with apples.
- 3
Bake for 45 minutes at 175 degree Celsius (350F) in the middle of the oven. Watch crumbs carefully as they easily burn so don't leave your post.
- 4
Add a dash of powder sugar. Serve with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream or both.

Dutch Crumb Apple Pie-- Szarlotka (Polish) Dutch Crumb Apple Pie-- Szarlotka (Polish)
In late fall, my mother would visit our neighbors, the Geraks, and bring home a half bushel of apples from the apple trees in their backyard. I remember them as small, tart, and it took a lot of peeling and cutting to get enough to make a pie, but what wonderful pies they were. In Poland they serve a version of apple pie called Szarlotka. My recipe won't be the easiest apple pie you have ever made, but it will look beautiful and be mighty tasty! (I've even given you an idea for making refrigerated pie crusts taste better!) After combining and tinkering with various recipes, I settled on this version. Good flavor and no soggy bottom. Leaving out excess fluid from the apples ensures that you don’t end up with a runny mess. The apples bake up nicely and even retain a very slight bite instead of turning into mush. If you like really soft apples in your pie and a runnier inside, simply add some of the excess apple fluid back into the pie.#Holiday #Thanksgiving #Dessert #American Chris Gan -
