BBQ Hamburger!! 🍔

June 25th was my husband’s birthday, and I gave him a getaway to a cabin in Gravenhurst (Ontario), about two hours by car from Toronto!

It was a surprise — on the same day, I wrote in his birthday card that I was going to kidnap him for two days!! 🤭 I decorated his office with balloons, a Happy Birthday banner, and a birthday card.
I got up at 5:30 in the morning to set it all up so he’d get the surprise as soon as he woke up!

Of course, there was a barbecue, so on the night of his birthday we made lamb and asparagus for dinner, and the next day for lunch, a couple of burgers, Spanish-style fries, and a corn on the cob!

Normally, I like to make the burgers myself, mixing ground meat with egg, garlic, parsley, salt, and breadcrumbs — but this time I bought them because I didn’t have all the ingredients in the cabin.

I’ll show you the cabin too 😉… It was amazing!

Ingredients

20 min
2 people
  1. 2beef burger with jalapeño pepper
  2. 1small onion
  3. 2hamburger bun bread
  4. 2lettuce leaves
  5. 4tomato slices
  6. Sriracha mayo
  7. 2Havarti cheese slices
  8. FRIES:
  9. 2small potatoes
  10. 4garlic cloves
  11. Olive oil
  12. SIDE:
  13. 1Corn on the cob

Cooking Instructions

20 min
  1. 1

First, we’re going to heat some olive oil in a pan, and meanwhile, we’ll peel and cut the potatoes.

  2. 2

We’ll take the 4 garlic cloves and crush them with a knife so they release their juice once we put them in the pan.

  3. 3

    We’ll heat up the barbecue.

  4. 4

We’ll put the potatoes in the oil to fry. Stir them from time to time so they cook evenly on all sides.

  5. 5

Once they’re nicely fried, we can take them out. Let’s place them on a plate or in a bowl with some paper towel to absorb the excess oil. Add salt to taste!

  6. 6

While the potatoes were frying, we will have peeled and thinly sliced the onion, and once we take the potatoes out, we can use that same oil to fry the onion and add it to the burger later!

  7. 7

Once it’s nicely fried, we’ll take it out as well and set it aside.

  8. 8

While the onion was cooking, we put the burgers and the corn on the barbecue (I only made one because my husband isn’t a big fan, so he didn’t want one.).

  9. 9

When the burgers are almost done, we’re going to toast the buns a little. We can add the slice of cheese on top of the burger so it melts.

  10. 10

We’ll slice up some tomato and rinse two lettuce leaves.

  11. 11

We’ll spread some mayo on the bun and assemble the burger!

  12. 12

This is how it turned out!!! The meat was super juicy, and the combination of everything… Spectacular!

  13. 13

The corn on the cob was delicious too! I had bought some butter to spread on it, but I liked the flavor so much on its own that I didn’t use any.

  14. 14

The cabin couldn’t have been more beautiful!

  15. 15

And with the outdoor fire pit, we were super cozy! (In Spain, it’s typical to go out for a little beer with some chips and olives to do “el vermut” — and that’s exactly what we did there!)

Hi everyone!!My name is Chus, and I’m a girl from Spain!I’ve been living in the U.S. since 2014, and we just moved to Toronto, Canada! (May 15th 2025).Even though I’ve been away from my country for years, I still cook every day just like I would back home.I love preparing both sweet and savory dishes, always with good music in the background. I like to get creative from time to time and try new things. I also enjoy putting together photo compositions of what I make—though sometimes, a simple photo says it all!I’ll be sharing some of my favorite recipes with you, just as you all inspire me every day!Shall we get started?📸 Instagram:@sweetchusy (English)@sweetchusy.es (Spanish)
