Steps

Soak Dal overnight and then put to boil in pressure cooker by adding 500 ml water + salt + roughly chopped Tomatoes for 6-7 whistles.

Assemble all ingredients

In moderately heated pan / kadhai, add 1 tbsp mustard oil and fry grated coconut till golden brownish and keep aside.

In same pan / kadhai, add remaining oil, add cumin seeds + bay leaf + dry chilli and allow to crackle (for few seconds), then add ginger + green chilli + hing and sauté till golden brown.

Now pour the boiled Dal + turmeric + salt, mix well and give 2-3 times boil.
Water can be added at this stage if want loose gravy dal.Now add roasted coconut +ghee + sugar and mix well. Simmer for 3-4 minutes and Dal is ready.

Serve this delicious Dal with steamed rice or Paratha / Puri.
