the carbonation makes the cake rise. you can use a plain soda or diet soda too for a weight watcher version. use white cake and mix up the flavors. stick with the cake mix it is pre-measured perfectly. also referring to the frosting a basic buttercream works great sub the liquid for some of the drink or soda for added flavor. orange soda cake with vanilla frosting is a good combo too (:

Made these yesterday for a coworker. Got lots of rave reviews. Made Monster buttercream by reducing the remaining Monster in a saucepan for about 20 mins then putting it in the fridge - used that to flavor the icing.

Rookie question do I used any other ingredients on the cake mix box or just the dry contents and the monster drink? Tia
