I recommend not making this cake in a springform pan. The cake was delicious, but the butter/sugar mixture spilled out from the bottom of the pan, all over the baking pan, and into the oven. There was so much smoke, and it was such a hassle to clean up that it made it not worth the trouble.

So sorry that happened to you! I have the kind that locks into the bottom, and I've never had that problem
