Does anyone know if you could replace tinned tomatoes with something else, or just leave them out?

ah yes, that makes sense :) Actually I was wondering if there was something besides tomatoes (fresh or canned) that might be good.

I think you could leave them out Felice if you didn't want a tomato flavour, and top up liquid level by using more water but you'd need some stock perhaps for flavour?

Okay! Broth sounds good! I was considering some grated carrot or something too. Not that I'm trying to avoid tomatoes, but I'm trying stick with "in season" fresh vegetables as much as possible ;)
