This looks so good. I used to have a spaetzel maker and loved them but just usally cooked them in butter and herbs. This looks even better!

That's awesome you used to have a spätzle maker! Herbs and butter is another great way to enjoy them I think :) When I make this myself, I usually add in herbs and some mushrooms.

Is Kasespatzle with cheese similar to macaroni and cheese? I've never had one before but I'm pretty sure I'm going to like it!!

hmmm, I never thought it was like macaroni and cheese because the spätzle pasta is quite different than macaroni, and it's not very creamy. Maybe like a "grown-up" version of mac & cheese :P

Thanks for sharing your Uncle's recipe. A very nice way to finish off the spatzle. It's definitely some comfort food now that Germany is not in the Euro finals.

do try! It's quite simple. If you can, I would recommend making the spätzle homemade instead of using the package though ;)

I love spätzle I make my own in batches and freeze them , llived in Frankfurt Germany for 5 years loved , traveled all over western half some north , miss it

Spätzle are so delicious arent they! I miss living in Germany too. I love all the regional food specialties you can get! I didn't know you could freeze spätzle! Do you just put them straight into a container then the freezer?

I make fresh and spread them on a plate big one and once they have frozen indiviually i put them in a gallon freezer bag and make sure do not crowd them and put /lay the freezer bag flat in the bottom shelf of freezer , this way they stay seperate and i thaw them the same way by laying flat on plate and then i immediately put on butter lol or how ever you want to eat .

Yes i miss living in Germany in frankfurt there was a or it was the best sausage shop near the old opera i have never seen so many sausages and i love sausages lol it was sausage heaven ☺

You can fry them in butter with some bread crumbs and try freezing i think i did that once but i do not remember what was the result , i love spätzle , i can eat plain with butter and wilted spinach for colour

Thanks for the tios on how to freeze! Makes sense to let them freeze up separately before putting in a bag. I like to fry mine in butter with sauerkraut and onions, but plain or with spinach is great too! Omg, yes, Germany is totally sausage heaven, lol.

Yes i love spinach i am still figuring out how to open and reply lol i love spinach so i like the baby spiinach leaaves just wilted in butter it is great color contrast with side of red cabbage --- heaven
