Di Pain Frire (Mauritian Fried Bread)

My used to make this for us in SA and in all fairness the baguette this side just doesn’t do any justice to the ones made in Mauritius. With that being said my mom would use white sliced bread and I was always bounding around her legs waiting for these to be ready 😋.

Steps
- 1
Add all ingredients into a bowl besides the colouring and water.
- 2
Mix Tumeric/food colouring 1 cup water. DO NOT ADD ALL THE WATER TO DRY INGREDIENTS. Add water in slowly until you have a batter that is thick but still runny.
- 3
Dip your bread in the batter till fully coated. Then place in your ready heated oil to fry (medium heat). Fry on both side for 3-4 minutes till the batter can clearly be seen as cooked.
- 4
Serve with salsa, a chutney of your choice or both. All done 😋
