Preheat oven to 400°F.

Put flour in a bowl. Rub the shortening into the flour until the texture is like cornmeal.

Form a hole in the middle of the flour mixture and pour the milk/buttermilk into the hole.

Use a fork to stir the flour into the milk, stirring in a circle bringing in a little more flour with each rotation.

Roll out dough 1/2 inch thick and cut with a 2 inch cutter.

Place biscuits onto a greased baking sheet and bake at 400°F for 10-12 minutes.
