Potato Au Gratin

Just a simple, classic recipe.
One may add other flavors, if one so desires. May I suggest some roasted garlic to give a greater depth of flavor.
Enjoy.

Steps
- 1
Preheat oven to 350 Fahrenheit/ 175 Celsius.
- 2
Clean, peel, and thinly slice potatoes. (Use a mandolin if available)
- 3
Place sliced potatoes, milk, salt, and pepper in a pot. Simmer until tender. (Roughly 10-12 minutes)
- 4
Butter a casserole dish. (Hotel pan if available)
- 5
Place roughly half of the potatoes neatly in the dish. Sprinkle with half the cheese. Then layer with remaining potatoes, and top with the remaining cheese.
- 6
Cover with foil. Bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and return to oven to allow cheese to brown, if so desired.
- 7
Allow to cool 10 minutes.
