Yes! Getting into Fall and Winter, the onions have been in storage for a long time and can get quite pungent and sulfury! Sometimes I give them a quick soak in cold water and a good drain before using them in things like guacamole and salads...

I usually fry mine in olive oil until they go transparent. It takes away the bite but keeps a more mellow flavour.
