The plain Sponge Cake is shop bought Madeira Cake made in Yorkshire,England,UK,the calorie count is based on 250g of the 500g Madeira Cake. The Supermarket ASDA sells this big form of Madeira Cake.

The 150g of raw fruit is based on a calorie count of a tub of Raspberries,I used Raspberries in the Trifle you see in my Photo.Could use 350g of plain Cake or Sponge Fingers as a base and the Trifle may taste even better with 250g of Raspberries in - the Squirty Cream will probably have less calories than the whipped up Double Cream.Could have whipped up - the fresh British whipping Cream alot more thicker - but still good.

350g of Madeira Cake and 225g of Raspberries brings the calorie count to almost 3 Thousand and 500 calories and the need for a bit bigger - large Dessert serving glass bowl - have only been applying the whipped up Double Cream at the last minute.
Custard does overflow a little bit - so I keep a Dinner Plate under the Dessert bowl that is overflowing with Trifle - apart from the whipped up Double Cream on top - and - yes - I keep it in the fridge - until I whip up the whipping cream (Double Cream) the following day - for gradual servings of Trifle and not forgetting a sprinkling of the Hundreds and Thousands of tiny little sweet bits - of different colours.

Madeira Cake is not a good choice as a Trifle Sponge - this Sponge Cake when soaked in a sugary fruit juice crumbles into a wet mess - if using Madeira Cake then just place it into a puddle of sugary fruit juice,so that the top half can be enjoyed with a bit of sweet wetness from the bottom of the Madeira Cake.
