I made some slight modifications to your recipe with great success: +1 cup 35% cream. Modified sugar to 1 and 1/4 cup. Finally, a personal touch I use on every chocolate based recipe: black pepper, in this case 1/8 tsp. I dont know what the chemistry is, but it makes it more chocolatey.

Interesting with the black pepper. I'll have to try your modified version the next time I make this, even with the pepper 😁 Thanks Mike, I'll let you know how it comes out when I do make this again.

My boss' wife had a birthday, her hubby had a friend come in and embroider the cake with spun sugar. Since this guy could do so with one hand tied behind his back, he also taught a clinic to us mere mortals. One of the tips he tossed out while making a spun sugar still life fruit bowl, was the pepper thing.
