My butter to flour ratio is usually equal. Melt butter, whisk in flour, cook for at least a minute. Whisk milk in slowly until thickened.

We really enjoyed this dish @ my house..the only thing I did different was that I used whole grain macaroni noodles. Plus I added a little more cheese on top, but I like my mac n cheese, cheesey..lol. I will def be making this again! B-)

Good basic recipe, but, like others said, it was bland. Next time I'll jazz it up with horseradish and mustard and add more salt.

This is a really good basic recipe which allows a lot of improvisations. I decided to add shallots, garlic, button mushrooms and beef bacon and a dash of paprika for more flavour and it turned out amazing! ~(o.o)~

Made this tonight. Topped with buttered crumbs too. Really enjoyed it. Just a tip, next time you make any kind of cream sauce add a little grated nutmeg to it. Not a lot, just a touch. Makes you say "hmm, what's in that".

Very rich, but delicious! Add a chopped red chili, some whole black olives, and cherry tomatoes (halved). Before placing in the oven, sprinkle a little paprika for effect.

Good stuff! Rich, cheesy and creamy. Changed it up a bit, the store didn't have plain Colby so I used Colby Jack. Used 1/2 the sugar. Also, I grated two small zucchini and shredded some kale, put a layer of mac down, put the zucchini and kale on, covered it with mac, and then poured the cheese mix over it. Couldn't even taste the veg, kid loved it, got some greens in the food!

Delicious!! I used whole wheat pasta, added mozzarella & pepper jack cheeses and crumbled real bacon on top. I also did NOT add sugar, it didn't need it. This was an awesome dish that my family loved!! :ohyeaah

made a few alterations, like using 4 Tbs of flour and doubling the cheese (I used all 3 cups in the sauce and layered about another 3 cups almost like a lasagna: noodles, sauce, cheese, noodles, sauce, cheese...). This will definitely be my new go to mac n cheese recipe!

I tried this and it was the worst. Noone would eat it. They all said it was very dry and tasted like cardboard. I will stick with the crockpot mac & cheese. It does not take up space in the oven when you need it for other things. :-@

Made this tonight and it was really good ! I only used cheddar cheese and I also added a 1/2 tsp more of flour to the butter mix. It was soo good! I also added a few sprinkles of bread crumbs on top. Will be keeping this recipe!

I made this last night. I added in cooked bacon broken up and minced onion that I first pan fried in olive oil. It tasted so good. My husband said it might be even better if I layered the top with bread crumbs, so I will try that next time. :hungry

needed a little more flavor for us, so i added some garlic, diced onion, diced jalapenos, some Frank's hot sauce, little bit of sour cream and dry mustard. and since there's only two us us at home I made a half recipe and it was the perfect size for leftovers! It was a great recipe that can be made to your flavor preference with only a few additions.

This is the only way I'll ever cook homemade Mac n Cheese! Really good base for endless possibilities with it. I used 3cups of buttermilk instead of whole milk, more flavorful. And added some good Creole seasoning, everyone loved it!!!❤ :ohyeaah

Very good recipe . I add 1tsp garlic , 1tsp black pepper, 1/2tsp allspice , and top it with bread crumbs.
