I haven’t tried it without an oven... you might just try to boil it down but I’m guessing the flavor won’t be the same. It would probably still taste good though :)

I had chance recently to try plum butter. A friend from Gera, Germany sent me a lovely Christmas package that included a jar of plum butter. I used it as a filling to make Hamantaschen cookies. Oh my, they are so delicious! The plum butter has such a unique flavor. My husband wanted to know if I make the butter at home. Now that I found this recipe, I think I can. 😊

Yes I know!! It’s so good, isn’t it? This isn’t too hard, just keep an eye on it while it’s in the oven so it doesn’t overcook. You can bake it down to your preferred texture:)

can other varieties of plums be used besides damson or Italian?

I haven’t tried it but I imagine it would work. You may get a slightly different flavor and/or texture but I bet it would still taste good.

Thank you. I read an article on Italian plums. I can see now why they are perfect for the butter. They are meaty and have a rich flavor that is retained when cooked. I need to look for them when they are in season, Sept-Oct.
