Thanks Yui. Turned out really nice. We has some oats mixed with raspberries and double cream for dessert. All in all a lovely day.Tomorrow I’m taking Joan for lunch at the West Mersea Oyster Bar. Our first proper outing since Japan. Nice outside tables by the waterside. Tonight’s leftovers 4T. All in all a good plan!

Ahh lovely! We love West Mersea! In fact we only went there on Saturday for a long walk and stopped for coffee and then fish and chips. That is so lovely John, hope you and Joan have a lovely day out tomorrow. Yui 😊

Thanks Rachel. I was pleased with it, especially as it was very much a case of selecting vegetables and herbs/spices that I thought would work together and rather guesstimating relative proportions and total quantity. We’ve sufficient leftovers for this evening and I shall certainly be exploring other purely vegetable possibilities in the future. Hope it’s been as lovely a day in your neck of the woods as here. John

Sorry that I didn’t spot this reply John. That is totally my kind of cooking, you have inspired me to make a big pot of something tomorrow 😋 I often throw in lots of herbs that I think will go with the veggies too. Have you ever tried throwing in a scotch bonnet 🌶? I love them in this sort of dish. Another lovely day here today, hope you had the sunshine too. Rachel x

I’ll be interested to see what you decide to do tomorrow Rachel. I’ve used scotch bonnet twice, both times within the last 6 weeks and also a green chilli called rocket. I did eat one piece of scotch bonnet raw just to get the idea: I doubt that I’ll be repeating that experiment! John

I will let you know! I really love chillies, scotch bonnet can be hot though. Mine was quite mild today, I had it chopped and raw on my pasta 😜 You can keep it whole if you cook it with veg snd it just adds some fruity heat. Rachel x

We also eat rather a lot of chillies but, having had a cardiac arrest and several heart attacks since 1994, I do have to be a tad careful - but not depressingly so 👍. I usual slice chillies complete with seeds for cooking. John

Thanks for your concern Rachel. Oddly enough, although chronic heart failure has placed quite severe limitations on my life (my long-distance walking for example), in many ways it and having also survived cancer have been very life-enhancing, as I value every day and above all my family, friends and our village community so I rather feel that I have been blessed. My cup is most definitely half-full and I enjoy whatever each day brings.

Such inspirational words John, thank you for sharing. Your recipes and words certainly always seem so joyful. X
