My mother used to make this in the 1970's, all she did was slice onions and cucumber and add malt vinegar to it, and store it in air tight jars. It was lovely on cheese sandwiches.

@cook_28127010 hmmm... I've never tried that. I'd imagine you can since it has the vinegar, but you'd still have to process them in a water bath. I wonder if processing it would essentially turn them into pickles. 🤔

I was always taught by my grandmother and mother to soak them in cold water for 8:00 hours or over night I see that you skip that step. I guess I might have tray your way it sounds easier.

@cook_113236114 the longer they soak, the more flavor they absorb, that's for sure! But I think they are just as delicious eaten soon after making them but that's also cause I can't wait! 😋
