Yup! I also grew up in a small island in Japan, where my grand father has a tiny fishing boat and went out 4am in the morning every day in summer.
Many fish we caught don't have names either, but really tasty. Those are real foundation to my taste pallet.

@Stella_T Do you have something similar in Greece, where Mediterranean cuisine uses a lot of tuna and fresh vegetables, though not much coconut milks?!
