This is similar to my Oma's recipe! She used hot chicken broth and no bacon. I love the vinegar and mustard dressing.

Never thought to do this with chicken broth. Thnx. Now that I think of it, perhaps my Grandfather used part of a chicken bullion? He was the German cook in the family and by trade, he was a baker. Sad, I never thought at the time to get any of his recipes.

Yes, plenty of great German cooking, but I stood my ground as a kid when it came to Rollmops (pickled herring)! Now that my tastes matured as an adult (sushi fan), I may someday try it again.

Hahah! I know exactly what you mean! My grandma loved pickled fish, but I wouldn't go near them :P After living in Japan and eating all kinds of raw, pickled or otherwise prepared fish, I really like the German/European ones too.
