I have read that before but also heard from a italian chef that it dates further back. Most written articles do seem to believe it's Wisconson. Interesting though since there is a Lombardi region in Italy!

I'd like to imagine that it's a clever joke. A sorta midwesternized version of an Italian dish with a name that references both a region in Italy and a Wisconsin hero, kinda cute.
