Hi Maureen, thanks for sharing this recipe. I wanted to know how much milk to use in total. You say in the ingredients that it is 1/2 cup. But in step 1 you say to add half a pint. Then later, in step 4 it seems that you've added more milk? How much milk are you using at the beginning and then in step 4? Please let me know. Thanks :)

I have checked it. It is 1/2 in a pan to boil and 1/2 cup to mix the custard powder into it and sugar. When the milk comes to the boil whisk vigorously so there is no lumps. I have not explained in my recipe very well I will amend it now . Thank you for bringing that up for me. 😃

Ah okay, so 1/2 cup goes into custard mixture at the start and then another 1/2 cup is mixed in later to thicken the custard mix, is that correct? :)

Yes it does need to be creamy full fat milk but you could try it I have not tried it like that.
So.etimes when the milk boils and you pour it in the bowl where you have mixed the custard powder it takes it off the boil so it's ok to pour it am back in the pan and bring to the boil stirring the minute you feel it thickening take it off as it burns easily keep stirring and you have your thick custard. 😀

Okay, I think I follow haha! But just to clarify: what's the difference between the '1/2 cup milk' and the '1/2 cup full cream milk' in the ingredients list - are they not the same thing? I.e. full fat milk used twice in 2 parts of the recipe? 🤔Thanks again in advance! Really appreciate how responsive you are to all of my questions! 😊

The difference is it should be 1 point milk take a little milk from the pint to just mix the custard to 2 heaped spoonfuls of custard powder and 2 tsp sugar that's the normal runny custard.
But when you want it set like in cakes thick like jelly.
You do 1/2 pint and I just added a cup I know it's near 1/2 pint anyway mix the cup milk with the 4 tbls custard so its twice as thick. 😀

Ah, makes sense! So the milk used both times can be the same, full fat milk?
Maureen 😀
Maureen 😀 @Moe131
Yep that's it oh and add extra sugar because it can turn out bitter without 😃

Also I was wondering if it would work the same if I used semi-skimmed milk instead of full fat? Or would I need to mix the semi-skimmed milk with something like double cream? Thanks in advance!
