I totally agree, Rachel, onions make for a great soup right now. Glut Not, Want Not - coz there’s no glut when you can put the lovely produce to good use.

Ditto re tomatoes or, indeed, anything that comes in profusion.My wife and I are so lucky coz, being really quite old and knowing postwar Austerity, we grew up being grateful for everything Providence put our way. These days we’re really very comfortably off but haven’t lost that passion for fresh vegetables and fruit (mainly grown by our friends these days) nor the determination not to waste anything if we can avoid it. Totally agree John, I love veg and hate wasting any of it! A lot of my recipes were born from the produce from my dads allotment (although he hasn’t worked it this year).
