In a saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Add the dates, cinnamon, and walnuts. Mash and mix until you get a smooth paste. Remove from heat and let cool.

In a bowl, combine the sugar, oil, and eggs. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.

In a large bowl, mix together the flour, powdered milk, cornstarch, baking powder, vanilla, and cardamom. Add the wet mixture and knead just until combined—do not overwork the dough. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Shape the dough into small balls. Fill each ball with the date mixture, then shape as desired, either using a mold or by hand. Arrange on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) with heat from the bottom only. Once the bottoms are golden, turn off the bottom heat and turn on the top heat to brown the tops.
