Chittagong Petal Chalta Chaṭnī

Emma-Jane @EmmaJaneR
Yes!! a chutney, how did the elephant apple turn out in the end? Does it taste similar to normal apples?

Laura @FeelBetter
MorningNearly committed Hari-kari opening it. It’s hard to prise the petals apart and they are surprisingly slimy inside. The fruit soaked up the pungent spices so I can’t really taste the flavour to be honest. Defo not one to be eaten raw though! No wonder elephants have so many wrinkles - must be from screwing their faces up at the sourness! The petals have the texture of an apple but there is something in there that is stringy/hessian-like, similar to the centre of an amra (hog plum) and inedible 😑. I don’t know why as I peeled it and removed some of the more leathery internal skins on some of the petals. I’m going to ask my boyfriend to taste it at the weekend and see what he thinks. He did ask his mum and she just said she knows what it is but never cooks it. 🤔
