Excellent idea Laura. We eat venison quite often coz there’s a pretty decent supply in rural Essex. We frequently get muntjac deer in our garden but nothing any bigger. But not far away …

How lovely or do they eat your bushes and trees? I’ve seen muntjac in the Chiltern hills. Even though I have the Woburn estate on my doorstep, I bough the venison bacon and shank from Ocado (Hampshire Game). For a 300g pack of bacon and a 600g shank I paid £9 - absolute bargain!

They do muffle the bushes but do very little damage really, unlike the badgers! Most of the local proper butchers offer game. Ben Rigby, who is a national game dealer, is about 7 road miles away and has an amazing range of frozen game available in a “shed-shop” to callers, obviously mostly locals. John
