Spanish peanuts is interesting. I thought a lot of peanuts were grown in the US?

Fun question! Spanish peanuts were cultivated in spain, brought over from Peru by the Conquistadors, then brought to the USA. We also have Valencias. Spanish peanuts are our most common peanut.

Ah the Conquistadors! I’ve never eaten peanuts in Spain nor come across them in recipes. Tend to serve olives or pinchos/tapas with drinks. Just downright awful what is happening in Valencia right now. Friends live in Andalusia some 7 hours away and telling me the rains are battering their homes. A far different cry from the beautiful weather I experienced when I was there a few weeks ago. I will have a rummage through my Spanish cookery books for peanut recipes.

Weirdly, I’ve only ever seen the red skinned ones in the oriental supermarket. The chaps here tend to go for KP dry roasted and salted and they are mostly eaten at Xmas time. The best peanuts I’ve tasted over here are monkey nuts from ‘Five Guys’ so if the boys go and get a burger they know to come back armed with a bag for me 😋
