My husband grew up on this but often we add fritos chips instead of tortillas and top it with black olives. Great recipe. Also my mil taught me to add about 1/4 cup taco sauce with each can of refried beans to some what thin it out and make then taste more restaurant style. ;-)

Pretty yummy.. Added some mexican rice and tomatoes and served with sour cream then added some crushed tortilla chips on top for a little crunch. Kids loved it! :chihuahua

Read other suggestions. Added hot salsa, ~1/2 cup onions, and small jalapeño pepper with taco seasoning. Put diced tomatoes on bottom of pan under layer of shells.
Came out great!
May use leftovers as topping for nachos.

It was ok but I think I'm going to play around with different ingredients to make it a bit more flavorful

Do not use fluffy corn tortias. They fall apart & do not taste right in the recipe.
