  • 12 slicessandwich bread
  • 20 cldouble cream
  • 200 ggrated cheese
  • 1vegetable stock cube
  • grated nutmeg
  • 40 gbutter
  • 200 gcheese (comté, gruyère or mature cheddar) in slices
  • 40 ggrated Parmesan cheese (if available)
  • 6 slicesham or smoked chicken

    Some time before (1 or 2 hours), crumble the vegetable stock and mix it with the cream so that it infuses.

  2. 2

    Start the recipe by mixing the cream + stock, grated cheese and half a teaspoon of grated nutmeg in a bowl. Add the beaten eggs. Season with freshly ground pepper (not too much, especially for children).

    Spread butter on one side of all bread slices.

  4. 4

    On 6 slices, place 1 slide of ham or chicken, then dispatch the slices of cheese. Then add another slice of bread (buttered side inside, in contact with the ingredients).

    Spread the cream + eggs + grated cheese mixture all over them.

    If you have some Parmesan cheese, grate some on top (yes, more cheese!!!).

  7. 7

    Cook in the oven (180 C) for about 15 minutes (remove when it's gratinated but don't let for too long otherwise they may become too dry).
