I am pretty proud of this recipe, because I have never eaten this before, neither have I heard of it - but I came across this a few weeks ago and it sounded interesting. I checked with K, and he drooled at the very mention of the name LOL. I needed a weekend snack idea and I decided to make some Sweet Cheedai. This is a sweet snack, so if you every need a snack idea, give this a shot

Steps

  1. 1

I began by soaking one cup of jaggery in a cup of hot water for about 30mins.This will help the jaggery break down into a syrup easily. As it is soaking, dry roast the rice flour and urad dal flour for couple of minutes. I made sure it was really low heat, because you don't want to burn the flour. Transfer this to a bowl

  2. 2

In the same pan, dry roast the sesame seeds and add it to the bowl. Heat 1/2 tsp of butter or ghee and add the grated coconut. After 30secs, transfer it to the bowl. Mix all the dry ingredients together

  3. 3

Once the jaggery pieces have dissolved, run it through a strainer to remove any jaggery chunks or debris. Warm this syrup along with the cardamom powder

  4. 4

Slowly pour the syrup into the bowl to form a dough. Let the dough rest for about 30mins (this helps with the absorption of flavours). After 30mins, make small balls

  5. 5

Deep fry in some oil until brown. Make sure the stove is on medium heat because you don't want the outer to brown faster and leave the dough on the inside uncooked. Drain on absorbent paper towels

  6. 6

Enjoy with a cup of chai

Welcome to my Blog The Eaterspot. My blogging journey began in March 2010. I had just relocated from the US, and living in Wellington, New Zealand was definitely a whole lot different from the US. The day after I landed here, I began a full time job, but I still had a whole lot of free time after 5pm. I was cooking a lot of new dishes from various cuisines so the blog was born to document my cooking for my friends and family to follow what we are upto as a newly married couple and to see what we were eating! Thanks for visting my spot!
