Easter eggs boiled in the dye

As a long-time housewife I learned to dye eggs in boiling dye that first had to have the foam skimmed off and then the eggs rubbed with a cloth dipped in oil. The disadvantage of that method is that quite a few of the eggs used to break no matter how carefully (the eggs being tepid) one went through the process. The advantage was that the eggs didn't go bad and you could keep them at room temperature for up to forty days. The new dyes that are approved by the EE and dye in cold water eggs that are already boiled don't sterilize the eggs as the old method did. This year I experimented with a new dye and not even one egg broke and since they have boiled for 8 minutes and then covered with oil immediately all the pores are sealed and so they keep well. The small eggs in the photo are from young hens.

Steps

  1. 1

Empty the dye in a cup with water and dissolve well.

  2. 2

Place as much water in a pot as is needed to cover the eggs.

  3. 3

Add the dye and the vinegar to the pot of water.

  4. 4

Place the eggs which you have already washed, carefully, at the bottom of the pot.

  5. 5

Place the pot over moderate heat until you start seeing the telltale bubbles of boiling.

  6. 6

As soon as the water starts to boil turn down the heat to 1 and count the minutes. Four minutes for runny eggs, eight for hard-boiled ones.

  7. 7

Using a sifter ladle strain the eggs in a bowl and rub them, as they are hot, with a piece of cloth dipped in oil.

Where did you get the dye and what is the name on the packet? Can it be bought online? Here in America I just use the liquid red food dye but I keep them overnight in the fridge with the dye and still mine are not that dark red. I want my eggs to be blood red like yours!!😋
