Ingredients

  1. Dry Ingredients
  2. 7 1/2 cupSelf-raising flour
  3. 1 cupBran
  4. 1 tspSalt
  5. 1 cupSunflower Seeds
  6. 1 cupChopped nuts (pecans, walnuts, etc.)
  7. 1 cupDried Fruit (cranberry, raisins)
  8. Non-Dry Ingredients
  9. 2 1/2 stickButter
  10. 2 cupBrown Sugar
  11. 1/2 cupOlive Oil
  12. 2 cupButtermilk

Steps

  1. 1

    Mix all dry ingredients in a large bowl.

  2. 2

    Add the buttermilk to the dry ingredients.

  3. 3

    Melt the rest of the non-dry ingredients over low heat.

  4. 4

    When sugar is melted, cool mixture slightly and add to mixing bowl. Mix well and knead, if necessary.

  5. 5

    Press mixture into 2 bread pans.

  6. 6

    Bake at 355°F for 1 hour. If it's not quite done yet, cover loosely with foil and put back in oven for a while.

  7. 7

    Cut into strips and lay them on cookie sheets to dry out in oven at 170°F for a few hours (flip once).

  8. 8

    Store in airtight containers.
