Kathal Sabji

Kathal Sabji ( a dry side made with raw, unripe jackfruit) is my favourite as it always gets me a lot of compliments. The taste is great and the amazing texture and colour will satisfy you even with just plain roti or steamed rice.
I developed this recipe to avoid the deep frying of the kathal. Taste and health in foods are equally important to me. To spread this love and to participate in the #cookwithpooja fun, I could not think of a better choice! Enjoy!

Heat a large pan. Add oil. Keep the heat low. Add the cut jackfruit/kathal pieces. Stir to coat well with oil. Cover and cook. After every 5 minutes, stir, sprinkle water and cover. Repeat for 20 minutes, till the pieces are golden brown and cooked through.

Add the chopped tomatoes, sliced onions and the ginger-garlic paste. Mix well. Cover and cook for 5 minutes.

Add the chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and Garam masala powder. Mix thoroughly. Cover and cook for 5 minutes.

Add salt. Mix and taste. If you wish, you can add more, to your taste. Add amchur/anardana powder. Fry for 5 minutes. If you wish, you can add a spoon of ghee (optional).

Serve with roties, pulao or plain rice. Enjoy!
