I don't know... but my dad used to add onions. And I wanted something to soak into the delicious fats from the "pancetta".

Interesting! I've had many carbonaras in Japan with mushroom and it tastes really good 😆 Also @englishitaly1 and @eliegianni you might be surprised to know that in Japan, we have many recipes making carbonara with heavy cream (I found that many of my Italian friends are strongly against heavy cream in pasta in general 🤪)

@englishitaly1 and @miecooks it's very common in Greece to add heavy cream and call it Carbonara, but of course this is definitely not the traditional italian Carbonara... Tomo @flavia has shown us a vegeterian Carbonara with peas
