Traditional crops such as sorghum (mtama), pearl millet (mawele), finger millet (wimbi), pigeonpeas (nzuu/mbaazi) have been branded as Smart Food. This is because they are not only highly nutritious and healthy (good for you), they are climate smart (good for the planet) and are also crucial for improving livelihoods of poor farmers in the drylands (good for the farmer).
The Smart Food campaign seeks to raise awareness about the importance of incorporating these grains in to our diets for improved health and dietary diversity.
On this page, we shall post various recipes that will demonstrate that smart foods can be used to make interesting dishes which are not only nutritious but tasty too!
