Dishes like toad in the hole appeared in print as early as 1762, where it was described as a "vulgar" name for a "small piece of beef baked in a large pudding". Toad in the hole was originally created as a way to stretch out meat in poor households

Ingredients

25- 35 minutes
2 - 4 servings
  1. 6Cumberland Sausage
  2. 2large Eggs
  3. 1 tblsVeg oil
  4. 150 gPlain Flour
  5. 185 mlsMilk
  6. 1/8 tspground Black pepper
  7. 1/4 tspSalt
  8. 1/8 tspEnglish Mustard

Cooking Instructions

25- 35 minutes

    Sausages cook 3/4 s Cooked and browned

    Measure the Flour then sift it into a deep dish make a well in the middle

  3. 3

    Crack the two eggs and drop them in the well. Using a hand whisker whisk in the eggs until its like a paste.

    Next add the milk slowly and mix until smooth. Add salt pepper and the mustard and stir in.

    In a 9 inch square oven dish add the oil swirl around to cover the bottom of the oven dish.(I used greaseproof paper so it does not stick to the bottom)

    Add to a pre- heated oven for 3 minutes to heat up. Then take out add the sausages and pour over the batter mix.

    Add back to the oven for 25-35 minutes or until risen and browned.

    When Done share onto two serving plates, add mash potatoe and gravy poured over the Toad In the hole. Enjoy
