Beer bread

1 New Years Day I didn't have any bread and I wanted to make a ham sandwiches & didn't have yeast so I couldn't make a loaf in the bread maker. So in an old cookbook I found this recipe . And beer I had. I've made it several times since.

1 New Years Day I didn't have any bread and I wanted to make a ham sandwiches & didn't have yeast so I couldn't make a loaf in the bread maker. So in an old cookbook I found this recipe . And beer I had. I've made it several times since.
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Preheat oven to 375°F
- 2
Add dry ingredients to large mixing bowl. Whisk together.
- 3
I make a well in the middle. Then pour 1 beer in, using a fork start incorporating the edges of the flour into the beer, a lot like you would making your own pasta. Until it forms a ragged dough.
- 4
Once ragged dough is formed, get on in there with your hands like you would with biscuits and bring it together to form a loose ball, knead the dough 10 to 12 times similar to biscuits.
- 5
Form into loaf & place in greased loaf pan. I used butter.
- 6
Let rest for approximately 15 minutes.
- 7
Place in oven on top rack for approximately 45 minutes until top is golden brown.
- 8
Open the second beer and enjoy it while your bread bakes... You do have 45 min. to kill lol
- 9
Let cool for 10 to 15 min.& turn out onto cooling rack.
- 10
Brush top of loaf with butter.

Sourdough Beer Bread (Schwarzbierbrot) Sourdough Beer Bread (Schwarzbierbrot)
This is a German-style hearty loaf. The combination of sourdough and dark beer/ale will give you a beautiful, rustic bread with a darker, crisp crust and wonderful aroma. This slow-rise bread also includes sourdough so you will need some wet sourdough starter. With the combo of long rising time, sourdough and beer, this was one of the best breads I've made yet! I might look complicated but it's mostly just mixing things and waiting. Felice -
