Ingredients

45-50 minutes including prep and cook time
2 servings
  • 3cloves, chopped Garlic
  • 2tbsp, chopped Cilantro
  • 2Dry red chilies
  • 0.25 tspGaram masala
  • 0.5 tspCumin powder
  • 1 tspCoriander powder
  • 0.5 tspKashmiri red chili powder
  • 0.5 tspRed chili powder
  • 1medium, chopped Tomato
  • 1small, chopped Onion
  • 1/2 cupMasoor dal
  • 2 tbspGhee
  • 1 pinchAsafetida
  • 0.5 tspTurmeric powder
  • 1 tspSalt
  • 500 ml(plus extra to adjust consistency) Water
  • 2 tbspChana dal
  • 2 tbspMoong dal
  • 1/4 cupToor dal

Steps

45-50 minutes including prep and cook time
  1. 1

    Rinse and soak all dals in the given ratio for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Drain and pressure cook dals with water, salt, turmeric, and asafetida until soft.

  3. 3

    Adjust dal consistency with extra water if needed.

  4. 4

    Heat ghee in a small pan, sauté garlic until fragrant.

  5. 5

    Add onion and tomato, cook until soft.

  6. 6

    Add all spices and dry red chilies, sauté for a few minutes.

  7. 7

    Pour tadka over dal, add cilantro, simmer for 5 minutes.

  8. 8

    Serve hot.

Tips

For extra flavor, you can add a squeeze of lemon juice before serving.
