I’ve been looking for something like this since visiting a workers cafe in Bratislava- without a doubt it was the best soup I have ever eaten. the chap couldn’t speak English and as the soup had been blended I had to use every tasting skill I had to try to establish the ingredients- I think you’ve nailed it so cannot wait until the colder days to try this

Making this now. I added 4 baby potatoes cut in quarters after the sauerkraut went in. I ate nothing but this soup most of my childhood, along with bryndzove halusky...if anyone knows a recipe I will take it:) My soup is smelling delicious. Cannot wait!

My mother is a Slovak and I have to say this is a very precise version of the recipe! In many regions of Slovakia this is considered a traditional Christmas soup. You might want to cook some barley in a separate pot and add them to the soup when served. Thank you for helping people who don't speak Slovak learning Slovakian traditional recipes!

Thanks for your message! This was so good when I had it in Slovakia, I wanted to make sure I could share an authentic recipe. Adding in barley sounds amazing! I will try that the next time I get a chance to make this.

Every year I ask the kids what they want to eat for Christmas. Every year they ask for kapustnica. 😁 Past Christmas I found myself here making sure I don't forget anything even tho I don't follow it exactly it has been very helpful! 🥳 Merry Christmas from me and my family and thanks! 🥹🤤🎅
