do you put the berries in the pan and then the butter and the batter on top of that? or do you put the butter, batter, and the the berries? Your steps are very confusing.

I put butter, batter then berries. Melt butter in pan. Pour batter over melted butter but do not stir. Then add berries without stirring. When it bakes the crust will rise to top.

I did it exactly by the recipe and got a pan of liquid, gluey muck. You should say more about how thick/thin you want it, and advise on water added. Just wasted 4 cups of delicious berries from my neighbor 🤨

She did mention how much liquid she adds though. More for a juicier cobbler, less for a cakey cobbler. When baking, it's always best to start with less and add more when it comes to things like liquids because any number of factors can alter the amount of liquid needed. Maybe your berries were juicier so exuded more liquid than expected. Maybe it also just needed to bake longer. I know it took longer to bake when I made mine. 🤷🏼‍♀️I've learned over the years that we can't expect perfection from any recipe even when we follow it exactly because even something like the temperature outside can affect what we're making. I just learn from each experience and alter accordingly for the future.
