Interesting take on this, but it's not authentic. Trust me, no Jamaican would eat your soup. Never. Watch a real Jamaican cook soup on YouTube or similar forum, then you'll understand.
Sorry, got to be honest.

Ha, I was taught by a Jamaican, we used to make it at university and I’ve just stuck with his way. It’s the scotch bonnet herb combo that I love! Definitely don’t claim it’s authentic in any way though, it’s just something I like to eat. Can you recommend any tips or a good YouTube? Thanks 😊

I’ve taken your advice and watched a couple of videos, but I haven’t spotted anything I would change yet. Really open to your suggestions though, which I will try next time. I love this soup and it’s one of the recipes that I would love to make even better. There are very few of my recipes that I feel have hit ‘perfection’ (yet 😂)! It’s worth noting that I use my Cookpad account for myself, to keep a little record of my favourite recipes that I like to cook (and eat) at home. I like trying new things in the kitchen snd I’m always ready to learn. I’m not a chef or an expert, I love ingredients and being creative and just enjoy cooking 😊

Hi Rachel,
Glad you took my comment in the vane it was intended.
The main thing is you gave it a go. 😊

I love herbs and spices. What would make it better?

You need to cut your veg up a little smaller and cook until they break up a little. Your soup looks rather like a miso or a consume.
Also a soup mix such as pumpkin or 🐓 soup, (readily found in authentic stores or major supermarkets down the world food aisles) is always a welcome addition. Not to mention creamed coconut or coconut milk to give it a lovely creamy satisfying backdrop... No two hands cook alike, but a soup with body is a must....not a miso...

All very fair comments and appreciated! I did leave the veg chunkier than usual and I used seasonal veggies rather than traditional - I was taking part in a seasonal veg project. I don’t like coconut milk much, so over time I’ve swapped to using lentils for the body, but I’m sure others prefer it. I know the soup mix you mean, I haven’t used since I’ve been vegan, but I do try add in similar flavours. The next time I make it I will try and give a bit more oomph!😉
Good tips 🙏 Are you going to put up and vegan recipes? Look forward to exchanging ideas and getting some more tips (if you don’t mind). 😋
