I made this for my picky son when he was 3... he's 16 now and still requests it! :-)

my mom raised us on these, but she called the "one eyed Turkish sandwiches". Don't forget to butter and brown the little bread rounds! That. was always our favorite part. If you have picky kids, scramble the egg, brown and add a tiny drizzle of maple syrup.

Wow, I haven't thought about these in years. Reminds me of my mom.
I made these this morning & my family loved it as much as I used too.
Thanks for the reminder.

I've been eating this since a child. The only thing I do different is add a slice of American cheese over the top when you flip it over. usually once it's melted the egg
is over medium.

Lovely idea... I french toasted the bread first (challa slices dipped in egg milk mixture) and then, when it was frying on the other side, broke in the egg and put a lid on for a few minutes, but left the yoke still runny. B-)

We call them "Toads In A Hole", and I am not really sure why. Lol but everyone I've ever made these for LOVES them. You can vary it with a dash of garlic salt and tiny bit of cheese on top if they are not zesty enough.

Fun for kids. Don't toss the circle of bread you cut out. Lightly butter it and fry it with the bread with eggs.
