No they don't. They end up almost like mashed potatoes, but I may try cooking the tots first to see if they stay crispy.

This is really good and so simple to make. I change it up a bit by adding a can of corn, and adding chunky salsa and omitting the sour cream and using creole seasoning in place of taco seasoning. Both ways are still really good.
