I Loooooove chayotes - my childhood favourite :) We call then Chow Chow on St Helena island and it's a staple in our meals.

I’ve found them in many recipes referred to as iskut, custard marrow, christophine, choko, mango squash, xuxu and the most logical name vegetable pear. Chow chow is such a cute name! I found them in my local market some time ago and not knowing what they were, brought them home for some research. I love them as they are so versatile and packed full of goodness too. This is my 4th recipe so far using them and I’m pleased to see lots of recipes using them on Cookpad . Defo an unsung hero.
