Wow, what variety of strawberries do you grow?

@FeelBetter don't know about the variety 😊 it's from the farm close to our home and they open for PYO (pick your own). The same goes to other farms, open for PYO for other seasonal fruits and veggies and they are super cheap. So we always have kilos of berries and other fruits like avocados, apples, oranges, plums etc.

Oh I see. I thought it was your farm 🤪. How wonderful to pick all those! Not many PYOs here and then it’s a short season to pick berries. Blackberries grow in the hedgerows. We rely heavily on imported fruit as it’s not warm enough to grow much. Avocados are very expensive and often mushy and tasteless. Strawberries are arriving from Spain atm but when ours are in season, boy are they divine.

@FeelBetter 😂 farming is a hard work 😂 respect those farmers and very grateful that they open their farms to us, the locals. Totally agree, imported fruits are usually very pricey. Imported stawberries must be very expensive. And Can't imagine those pricey avocados turn mushy and tasteless!! Like many other farms, Avocado farms here are amazing and their avocados taste great and big in size! Happy to see more recipes for seasonal fruits/veggies here in cookpad.

Seasonal is totally the way to go but would never be able to eat a banana or passion fruit or anything vaguely exotic ever again if I had to rely on them grown here. Even tomatoes and chillies are grown in greenhouses. I used to have banana, fig and olive trees in my garden when I lived in Spain. Cookpad challenge this week I decided to make a Ukrainian dish so needed savoy cabbage but it’s not in season so I couldn’t buy it but found using sweetheart cabbage is a massive improvement! So thanks Cookpad.Whereabouts do you live?

@FeelBetter wow! Your place sounds very cold! Where is that? The thought of owning a greenhouse is fantastic as one would be able to plant all year round. Our weather here in Australia, especially Perth, is sunny most of the time and summer can be unbearable. Winter is very cosy. We don't get to see savoy cabbage often though. From this week challenge i learn that savoy cabbage is superior than that green cabbage. Hope to see your Ukrainian cabbage dish. In fact, seeing dishes that reflect many different cultural backgrounds is refreshing. I do sometimes experiment new dishes i discover in cookpad, especially those tradional ones.

Would love a greenhouse but my garden is too small. I just about have room for a herb garden and blackberries grow over my shed! I live in the middle of England in a one of the newest cities (only 50 years old) called Milton Keynes which is about an hour by car, half an hour by train north of London. Well savoy is green cabbage but I believe red is the most nutritious. That’s the best thing about Cookpad sharing recipes from around the world either from travels or recipes handed down from generation to generation. We are lucky here in the UK as it’s so cheap to travel in Europe and so many different cultures and recipes.

@FeelBetter herb garden sound great! Would love to have blackberries as well but despite having good weather here, i have no luck, so far, with planting 😅 and here i thought savoy cabbage is different from green cabbage 😅 i definitely need to learn more! And yes, many said the red one is nutritious but we don't usually buy that since we don't know many recipes on red cabbage. Thank you for sharing the where about of Milton Keynes. It's always good to learn and discover something new. It's great to be able to travel Europe and discover cultures and food too! Saw your cabbage recipe, it's very interesting, Learning new dish today! Hope to see more of new dishes soon too. Happy Cooking to all of us 😁😊

So lucky with your weather. Well if you ask a French person they will say savoy is the best 😉. I personally think the best cabbage is what we call ‘spring greens’ which are the youngest cabbages that grow over winter and don’t have heads but loose dark green leaves and are highly nutritious and really tasty. Oh red cabbage is great in coleslaw but is best braised with apple and served with meat such as roast pork. Try picked red cabbage and serve at a bbq or with cheese. It’s a game changer!

@FeelBetter i honestly don't know much about cabbages. Only 3 types that we know of, the green one, purple and the one used to make kimchi. Lots to learn 😅 you really do know your veggies. Will definitely want to try red cabbage more. Thank you for the ideas 🥰 💡
