Gefilte fish balls

Felice @morinoko
First time I heard of this so I had to look it up :) So this is a Jewish recipe? It sounds really interesting! What kind of fish did you use? I noticed that other recipes put pieces of carrots on the finished gefilte fish balls too. Is that just for decoration?

Hi Felice :) yes it is a jewish food although everyone is welcome to eat it and enjoy it :) i i used white fish, pike and buffalo. I would like to try it with other types as well, im sure it would come out great with all sorts of fish types. Traditionally Jews eat it on Shabbat and holidays. Follow this link to find out more about why we eat fish on Shabbat http://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/622944/jewish/What-Is-Gefilte-Fish.htm
I don't think there's any symbolism to the carrot, it kind of became a tradition as well.. it is a good contrast to the white fish ;)
Are you Jewish? interested in more Jewish recipes?

I think the comment might have been sent a couple times before i finished editing it.. I'm new at this program.. still figuring it out.. :)
The Holiday of Passover is coming up at the end of this week so I'm in the kitchen cooking and preparing for it and plan on writing up some more recipes I'll be playing around with.

Thanks for explaining :) No worries about the extra comments, I guess it'll send it when you press ENTER. Anyway, I'm not Jewish but I'm interested in Jewish food because it always looks so good! I feel like some dishes are similar to German food - actually I thought this was German because the name of the dish sounds German. I love fish so I'm going to have to try this. I hope you'll share more of your recipes from Passover! :D

Thanks
Jewish food definitely is good!! :)
actually gefilte fish is Yiddish for stuffed fish (the way it was originally made) and Yiddish is similar to German so I guess it makes sense for it to sound like a German dish ;)
Enjoy the recipe! Let me know how it comes out
