There is also a close relative kencur commonly grown in the garden as a medicinal plant, meeting Rapet (K. rotunda Jacq.), but easily distinguishable from the leaves.In the international literature (English) often causes confusion by calling kencur as lesser galangal (Alpinia officinarum) and zedoary (ginger and white), which is actually a different species and is not substitute to the spice.
