Cut the same number of circles again, but hollow out the centers like donuts.

Whisk the milk with the egg and vanilla. Brush the first set of circles with this mixture, then place the hollowed circles on top and brush again with the egg mixture. Bake in a hot oven until golden brown.

Press down the center of the circle if it rises slightly, and add the sweet or savory filling.
