Ingredients

  1. 3 cupPlain flour
  2. 6 tspbaking powder
  3. 2 tspcaster sugar
  4. 1 pinchsalt
  5. 2 cupwarm water
  6. 2 packagesdripping (in the butter section next to lard)

Cooking Instructions

    Add drippings to large pot and place on medium high heat

    Add flour, baking powder, sugar and salt into a large bowl.

    Make a well in the middle of flour

  4. 4

    Add warm water to center of flour

  5. 5

    Using a butter knife mix ingredients together until combined. Do this very softly.

    The key to beautiful rising fry bread is not to kneed the dough too much.

    Once combined, turn out onto a lightly floured surface

    Kneed dough very lightly, keeping light hands, knead for only 30 seconds

    Leave for 15min to allow some resting and rising.

    Cut diagonally using a dinner plate into palm size pieces in the shape of a rhombus (a plate helps to seal the edges)

    Add 3 pieces at a time to the drippings, they will puff into pillows within one minute, flip over and leave for another minute.

    remove from drippings and place onto paper towel.

  13. 13

    Once all pieces are cooked, slice in half and serve with butter and golden syrup.
