Beef and Cabbage Stew
I grew up with this food, loved the way my mom used to make it.
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Cut the meat into pieces. Then in a large pot on high heat, brown the meat using the oil. You might have to do this in 2 batches. When done set the meat aside.
- 2
In the same pot brown the onion, green pepper and chilli.
- 3
Now put the meat back in and add the stock. Cook covered on a medium heat for 70 minutes. Stirring occasionally. Add water if needed, I didn't need to add water at this point. Please note that this is not a watery or saucy stew.
- 4
Add the potatoes, cabbage, Worcestershire sauce garlic and spices. Cook for 40 minutes, stirring every 4-6 minutes. Add some water if needed. I added 125ml of water. Turn up the heat by 1 for the last 5 minutes, remember to stir more often.
- 5
Serve with rice.

BEEF STEW - OLD RECIPE BEEF STEW - OLD RECIPE
I made this for my parents for dinner 40 plus years ago. They both wanted to know what I used for thickening. It turns out it was the way I cut the potatoes and floured the beef before I browned it. My Dad loved my stew! Needless to say, I've been making stew the same way ever since and never without thinking about my Dad. . . "Good times around the family table". sandra53 -

Beef stew Beef stew
I must admit this recipe is really for a beef pie, but the insides where so good, why not just have the insides!! I think it qualifies for stew!! You can cook the first part in a skillet but you do need a Dutch oven to complete it. It is rather fiddly to make but I guarantee you'll be happy with the results. Props to my hubby as well for the photography as usual!! kokomayla -

Low Carb Slowcooker Beef Stew Low Carb Slowcooker Beef Stew
This beef stew turned out so good. Usually I serve it with rice or potatoes but I opted for a low carb choice.... Mashed cauliflower. This was a first for me and it was pretty good. Although I admit potatoes do taste better but I will do this again. It was comforting, flavorful, and very filling. Also instead of thickening the gravy with flour or cornstarch I scooped out some of the broth and veggies and blended them with my immersion blender. Then I added back in to the stew. Cooking with Kimberly Wood
